July 12

Yesterday was spent moving the remaining items from the storage area so it could go off hire and save some money. The weather has been very kind and most of the stuff brought over is currently on the front lawn. Anything sensitive has been brought in but the space is limited as one of the first floor rooms can be used until the jointing and decorations have been done.

The morning was spent driving to collect a new (100 year old) dining room table that we will have professionally repaired. It is the perfect size (2.5m long) to fit in the dining area and extends a further meter to 3.5m for entertaining. I then spent time finding space for various items from the store that were still outside and getting them off the lawn. In the late afternoon I tackled the loft ladder in the dressing room, the last room to fit a ceiling to. When the ceiling supports first went in, I noticed that the frame of the loft ladder was too high and the plaster board would not meet it at the correct level and knew I would have to adjust it. So today I jury rigged some supports using my spirit levels and clamps then from upstairs in the attic (which I can still access from the mezzanine walkway) I unscrewed it, dropped it to the correct height and refitted it.

I have then cabled the room and cut (but not fitted) the first bit of boarding before I had to leave to take the tail-gate lorry back to the hire company (Leclerc this time).
